I want to do a really easy thing and I found out its not that easy.

I want my movies on DVD with subtitles (even burnt on video) and a menu with chapter selection!

The only succesful way for me to convert .AVI files to DVD is ConvertXtoDVD. (Others mess up with NTSC, audio out of sync etc etc)

ConvertXtoDVD creates succesfuly DVD files (VIDEO_TS) with subtitles. hooray! But I still want to have chapter list in the menu...

So, I tried to author this output with TMPGEnc Author 2.0. It creates a good menu with chapters, BUT it removes subtitles!

    Can somebody help me?

Is there any SIMPLE (chapter list + subtitles) DVD author program that supports .VOB files?

So, I can't add subtitles with TMpgenc DVD Author right?

And, can I add the subtitles after making the conversion, using a program like DVD Shrink?

    Thanks.

    No and No.

If you want subs and more advanced menus use something like Ulead DVD Workshop or DVD-lab.

Or can't I use a program that lets me import the menus?

EDIT --» Or even better, a program that lets me do the menu I want (similar to the TMpgenc menus) and then I add the menu with aother program that also allow me to add the subtitles.

    Is this possible.

Thanks, and please someone help me.

You could try the freeware GUI for dvdauthor. Info here: https://www.videohelp.com/~gfd/GUI_DVDauthor_eng_07.htm

Or the next step up from TDA may be DVD Lab or DVD Lab Pro. They will do subtitles, unlike TDA.

    I hate GUI

I tried DVD Lab and really don't know how to work with that. I don't know how to put an image in the main menu, how to add a music in a main menu, how to add subtitles and how to change the image of the little box in the main menu.

So, if anyone could help, I would rally be happy.

    Thanks.

Search for some dvd lab guides.
Read a guide and you will be able to learn basic things and work with it.

    Just one question:

how do I add words to the menu (title), and how the f*** do I add subtitles?

    And I've looked the guides.

    Thanks

EDIT --» I found the title stuff, only the subtitles left.

EDIT 2 --» And please don't tell me that I can't add subtitles.

EDIT 3 --» BTW I'm using DVD Lab (not DVD lab pro), i hope this works too. And if it doesn't works, can I import this menu in other version of DVD LAb? Thanks

To add audio to a menu just drag it from the assets list to the menu page and drop it there.

DVD Lab comes in three flavours

Standard cannot do subtitles at all
Studio can do one subtitle track
Pro can do up to 8 subtitle tracks

If your version supports subtitle then all you have to do is open the movie you want to add them to, then double-click on the subtitle stream under the audio tracks in the movie window. This opens the subtitle screen, where you can import, edit and compile subtitles.

If you don't have a subtitle stream under your movie then your version does not support subtitles.

Thanks man, now I can add the subtitles, but just one question: my project is in NTSC format, but my videos are in PAL, how do I change my project format?
    Thanks

Either when you start a new project (there is a PAL or NTSC radio button), or in Project Properties.

DVD Lab Pro ships with a pretty good manual in PDF format that covers all this and most of the basic functions. It is worth reading.

My problem is that, I've done everything alredy, and I don't want to do that all over again. But is there any problem if the project is in NTSC and my movies in PAL?

    Thanks

Yes - it technically isn't a DVD. It may not play in all players.

Like I said, you can change this at any time in the Project Properties, which is found, surprisingly, under Project -> Project Properties
