I would save it out with full audio processing as a WAV, then add it back in and change the encoding to MP3, then save the whole file, with the video set at 'Direct stream copy'. If you try to do it without extracting, you may have problems.

I also use Lame MP3 in VD for the conversion. Just use the same specs as the AC3 file. I assume you have the AC3 ACM Decompressor in VD already if you were able to open the AC3 audio file. VD and VD Mod use slightly different settings, but they both work the same way. I find VD Mod a little easier to use with audio files than VD.

You would need to make sure that the audio is downmixed to 2 channels.

ivory50, did you try rebooting after the LAME MP3 install? VD should have found it. With the audio stream, you selected 'Full processing mode', then 'Compression'? Even without LAME, there should be MP3 codec settings there.

But there are lots of other programs that can convert a extracted WAV file to MP3. I don't demux, just save out as WAV, then process to MP3. Then you can add it back in.

Were you able to find the AC3 stream in VD?
