I just got my first dvd burner the otherday. So i am wondering how many videos can you fit on a dvd+r 4.7gb. I have gotten upwards of 2 1hr and 30min videos. But i was seeing if there was a way to fit more. Like differnt encoding software. Right now im using nero with AVI files. Is there hope for me?

If you are encoding to Divx, you are using the DVD as a data disc. Many full length movies have been encoded to Divx or Xvid to fit on a CD of about 700MB. A DVD holds about 4.37GB, so you can easily get six of those on a data DVD.

The easiest or best, depending how you look at it, is to use a program like AutoGK, or FairUse Wizard, or avi.net to create the Divx or Xvid. This is usually from a DVD that has been decrypted. If you raise the compression higher or lower, then that will change how much video you can put on a disc. And it will also lower or raise the quality. If you are encoding shorter clips, I find VirtualDub works well.

Or if you are wanting to play the files on a regular DVD player, not a Divx DVD player: You would need to encode them to DVD video and audio specifications and author them to DVD format. Then you might get up to about 8 hours of video, but at greatly reduced quality, about like a VCD. Good quality, about 2 hours. The DVD format is to the upper left, under: 'WHAT IS' DVD. <<<<<<

    And welcome to our forums.
