  1. I have some xvid files which is not packed bitstream. But when I edit them in virtualdub, I have a lot of problem on it. It seems that I always can't find the correct keyframe, they change all the times. For example if frame 300 is a keyframe, when I first go there, I see a screen, but if I go back to this frame later, it change to another screen.

I need to use mpeg4modifier to add packed bitstream, and then I can solve the problem.

So is packed bitstream that bad? I think at least it can let me easily edit the xvid file under virtualdub.

Problem is VfW (reason packed bitstream was created). So VfW and avi are bad. Get rid of them and you have no need for packed bitstream.

You could try avidemux or unpack after editing. Personally I wouldn't really bother. The only time packed bitstream was really a problem with with more than 1 consecutive b-vop on MTK based SAP's. Most players would have gotten firmware updates by now to fix the problem though.

  3. None of my AVIs use packed bitstream. If I have to edit in VDubMod, I play the video in a player like Media Player Classic, and find the place by time I want to edit. I then find the same place by time (and not by the picture showing in VDubMod) and do it that way.
