    I haven't found a topic about this:

I want to make short clips of longer videos for teaching purposes. For instance I would like to cut 1minute of audio-video from a 2 hour movie. I want (but not necessarily) the original VOB mpeg2 quality, subtitles, and different audio layers. I am working with large .vob files I have created from dvds with osex.

I have tried with MPEG StreamClip, but subtitles disappear (is there a way to keep subtitles?) and you can only choose one audio track (this is a minor problem actually)
I have tried with fmpegx but I don't find a way to set a beginning and an end to the transformation. Is it possible?
I have tried with Diva but it only takes the video component
I have tried with DVDStudioPro but it only processes the video component of the VOB file (and the same happens with FinalCutPro: is there a way to edit audio and subtitles from a VOB in FinalCut?)
I have tried with Toast 6, but it will not allow to set an initial and final point for vob files (as it does for avi or other formats)

    thanks for any hint!

Take a look at Cinematize 2 Pro. You can email Miraizon about your specific requirements and they'll respond as to what it can or cannot do.

    Thanks Frobozz,

I have downloaded cinematize (demo version) but it will only open full DVDs, no plain VOB files. In my case I have VOB files that include the full movie, but not images of DVDs or DVDs.
Anyway the demo version will only open 10 second movies and does not demostrate much.

Maybe I will have to switch to PC windows...

you can use handbrake (freeware) when you extract a chapter from a dvd. that way, you can embed subtitles (although it takes a lot longer to extract a clip that way), and then you can edit with mpegstream clip. or if you have access to pc, you can rip it with a pc, and then edit with mpegstream...
