Hi guys, i'm a relative newbie at capturing. I'm trying to backup all my old vhs tapes and i'm having a real problem. My s-vhs signal keeps showing diagonal lines on the screen especially on bold colours. Just so you know i'm using an AverTV 303p capture card & a JVC HR-S7860 vcr and a high quality svhs cable to link them. I'm also in the UK using PAL.

I know the tapes are just vhs but i figured that the filters on the vcr might help the quality. Please help me as i'm really stuck with it, i've tried using the card in different pci slots to no avail as well. ANy help is most appreciated.

    Thanks

Does it show up when the VHS tape is played on the tv set? I bet it's just the higher res of the computer is showing you flaws that already exist on the tape.

They still show up on a tv because they're capturing along with the picture.

I believe lordsmurf meant, do they show up on the TV when the VCR is directly connected to the TV.

However, since you can view and record at the same time. Then the issue is most likely a cable, connector, or the capture card itself introducing the flaw(s).

It looks like PAL subcarrier is crosstalking into luminance. S-Video is supposed to keep them separate. Maybe this happened during recording.
