I just got DSL and have been downloading divx movies. I like to download the higher quality (like 720x480) rather than lower quality(like 352x288 ). But the only problem with the higher quality files are that they are usually more than 700mb and cant fit on a standard cd-r. i dont want to make a vcd, i just want to put the file on a cd. i know how to cut parts of the video out to make it fit, but i want to keep the whole movie intact. is there any other way to make the file fit on a standard 700mb cdr???? oh and i dont want to zip them either. i want to keep them the way they are

    thanx

  2. the question is HOW much is the file over the 700MB limit. Try dragging it into your burning software and see what it says. CD burning is actually based on time rather than Megabytes, and some files (like VCD) can be oversize in MB but still fit on a CDR.

Changing the frame size won't matter. Trimming off intro/extro credits or re-processing the file with a lower bitrate/framerate will. It all depends on the file you're working on. Here's a couple Virtualdub tips:

    1. Mark out the movie to include just the movie and not any extra credits then do a direct stream copy of both audio and video.
    2. Choose Video->framerate and choose Inverse telecine if the DivX was encoded at 30 fps. Do an adaptive pulldown and direct stream copy.
    3. Choose Video->framerate and decimate the framerate. You can do this while still using direct stream copy, so it's worth a quick test.
    4. Choose Audio->Full Processing->Compression and lower the audio quality of the compression settings. Process the file with direct stream copy for video and full processing for audio.
    5. input the length of your movie into a bitrate calculator and determine new video bitrate settings that will fit. Re-process the entire file.
