  1. In VirtualDub, when I try to use the Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 codec, I get this message:

"You have not installed the complete Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 VCM package in your system. In order to use this codec effectively, please download the complete package from
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/codecs/vcm.aspx
The package includes help documentation and sample parameter files."

But on that page, or on the various linked pages I've tried, I cannot find the actual download. Can someone tell me the link for it please?

Also, I'm a bit confused here, as I already thought I had this installed, from the file WM9Codecs.exe.

Any help would be much appreciated please. In particular, where can I actually download this 'VCM Package'?

  2. OK, I've found the link:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/8/a/98a6cb2d-6659-485e-b1f9-2c0d9bf6c328/wmv9VCMsetup.exe

I have not yet run wmv9VCMsetup.exe, as I'm hoping someone here can clarify whether indeed I really do need it.

Since my original post I went ahead anyway, disregarding that message. The resultant AVI (10 MB from a 317 MB original) seems fine.

The message is presumably telling me I don't have all the configurable options of this codec installed. Do others find these useful please?
