I am looking at purchasing this unit since I really do not need the 160gb or 250gb versions of this model. Does anyone have this? If so, what are your opinions?

I am very satisfied with my RD-KX50. As I see it;
Pros;
Outstanding Picture quality.
Excellent TBC performance for analog tape sources.
1394 Input with Auto chapter detect.
HDMI Output.
Great Timeslip functionality.
Instant Skip / Instant Replay buttons - I wish that all of my DVD players had these.
Extensive editing and authoring capabilities.
Easy Record Menu (No TV Guide).
Low Standy power consumption.
Cons;
IRE ErrorLife is better when you focus on the signals instead of the noise. -
Could you elaborate on the ire error? Too light? Too dark? Can a simple color corrector fix it?

The DVDs that it makes tend to look a bit brighter in other players. There is a record mode select meant to compensate for this, but it has not been a major issue for me. I mentioned it because others have mentioned it. Other manufacturers seem to have similar issues as well.

I had not realized that gshelley61 had posted results about the IRE error in these recorders. I independently tested the Sony GX315 and JVC DR-M10S on this thread and found that they behave just as he described,

I now have a second JVC DR-M10S to test.
