  1. HELP?!?!?!... When I start with a highres MPG file and I use Windows Movie Maker to edit it, then I choose "Save to my computer" when it's ready.

when I try to save the file I get an error:

"Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available, and then try again."

I've searched all over for answers. Microsoft has a page about it here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814836

I've tried just about everything it suggests, including:

Method 3: Increase the Size of the Paging File
In the Virtual memory pane, click Change.
Click Custom size, and then in the Initial size (MB) box and the Maximum size (MB) box, type a number that is larger than the number that is currently listed.

    and

Method 5: Perform a clean startup in Windows XP

I give up. Can anyone suggest anything?

Just how big is this file? If your computer is trying to hold it or just the edits in memory, I could see that as a problem.

It's apparent from that MS page that they don't have a clue about how to fix it.

At this point, I would look for another editor to use.

the file is not big. I think the problem is the MPEG-2 encoding. can you suggest a program that can work with this type? thanks

WMM doesn't do MPEG-2 encodes or output MPEG-2. One of MS's 'better' ideas. I don't know if that's your problem with WMM and saving the file, but you can output it as DV AVI with WMM and use most any MPEG encoder.

Or instead you can use a MPEG editor. like MPEG-VCR or VideoReDo. For freeware, try Mpeg2Schnitt or Cuttermaran for simple edits.

If your final destination is a DVD, then you will need to make sure the video and audio are DVD compliant. For DVD specifications and formats, see 'WHAT IS' DVD to the upper left. You will also need to author the video to the DVD format. There are freeware authoing programs like DVDAuthorgui or GUI for dvdauthor or for payware, TMPGEnc DVD Author is easy to use.

It is now July 2013, seven years since the original post in this thread. I'm getting exactly the same error message today! I won't waste another minute with this editor.
