  1. some files seem to have an audio track called A52. they play with QT 7 but with no audio.

is there a plug in for this?

    they play fine in MPLayer

if these files are 'placed' in Toast 7 and made into a DVD-video will that audio play with DVD-player and a set top DVD > TV ?

    cheers and thanks

ATSC A/52 (official name of the standard) or AC3 (Adaptive Transform Coder 3) or Dolby Digital (marketing name) are all the same; a series of lossy audio compression technologies by Dolby Laboratories. Best known for the 5.1 surround sound on DVD (and digital tv). Also used in DVD-rips (e.g. DivX AVIs) as it copies the DVD audio without additional loss (unlike mp3 in AVIs, which is transcoded and down-mixed to stereo).

To play AVIs with A52 audio in QuickTime Player, install the A52Codec, as linked by ffooky.

Toast will author MPEG-2 with A52 audio to DVD just fine, but for AVIs I think you'll need a QuickTime plug-in.
