There are times when I will have a project (Video) but have little to work with. (footage, photos, ext)
Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on what I can do so that a project won't be so boring when I'm put in this position? I'm getting more it to motion graphics (AE) I'm thinking that will help.

You haven't provided much information to work with, so I'll try to make a response that isn't too boring. Saying "A video project" doesn't tell us very much. Are you making 30 second commercials or 8 hour miniseries movies?

To stretch out viewing photos and keep them interesting use slow moving Ken Burns effects. For very short video clips try running them forwards, then backwards, then forwards again. Insert silent movie text to continue the storyline. Include appropriate classic poetry, verse by verse, separated by your other footage.
Obviously some of these suggestions are more appropriate for some kinds of presentations, but unsuitable for others. A little more explanation of your goals will probably garner better responses.

You have to supply more information to receive a adequate answer. What do you really want to do?

I don't think many people now days likes to take the time to set and watch a long drawn out boring video presentation. I suppose when no one had electricity and the only entertainment was to walk 2 miles to watch a 20 minute newsreel then yes, they would enjoy such a thing, but nowdays no one has or will take the time to do so. I try to keep my presentations short and to the point and am getting a more positive feedback from my viewers. Long drawn out boring presentations that are openly stretching the content are hard to set throught even for me. lol

    Just my 2cents worth.

    Good luck.

  5. Random transitions and a little Ken Burns motion are good, but it does not help if you take a 5 minute slide show and stretch it out to 10 with lots of doodads.

The human eye and mind are bored by sameness. Stimulated by variety. Motion, colors, sound, text, animation, ALL IN MODERATION, and not detracting from the main theme (though in some cases this can be a good thing) all combine to improve the show.

You must always be careful that the gizmos do not overpower the main show, unless the gizmos ARE the main show.

Also, know your audience. 40 year old professionals are different from 10 year olds who are different from teenagers who are different from little old ladies.

Well, that works for me. I have heard that there is an extreamly high ratio of of raw footage to finished footage in almost any project. Having some stock footage to add to a project is always helpful. Pans and zooms of stills can buy you some time as can some of the above mentioned fades and text inserts or a moment of black screen and such, but there is also alot to be said for short and to the point if the topic deserves it
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?
