So I have the above and most of the time playing back divx/xvid files works perfectly fine.
Till recently when I tried a certain xvid file where the video kept pausing every few seconds (though the audio continued fine). Rencoding it at a lower bitrate enabled it to play so I assume its only a bitrate issue and not something else.
What I'm wondering is if there is a way to find out the max bitrate my player can handle. It doesn't mention it in the manual. Anyone know?

Do you still have the original avi file ?
it would be interesting to compare g-spot 2.60 screenshots of the before and after avis. There are other factors, such as GMC and QPEL that can cause playback problems. It may be that you changed these when you re-encoded, and that bitrate wasn't the issue at all.Read my blog here.
