Here is what i am doing and its long and i think there are a few steps i could eliminate to make this work better.

    1) I used DVD shrink and ripped the entire DVD to my hard drive. I used no compression so the file is about 7.5 gigs. The DVD is of a TV show featuring half hour shows.

    2) Used VOB2MPG to give me mpeg files instead of VOBs. The mpeg files are big and some have more than one episode in each file so i have to use TMPG Mpeg Editor to split the files into individual episodes. The deleted scenes are also stored in 1 mpeg so i have to cut the scenes for each episode into their own mpeg.

    3) I go through the deleted scenes for each episode and convert each one to 16:9 format because they are in 4:3 letterbox wheras the episodes are in 16:9. I used TMPGEnc Plus and it will not load the audio for the file so i have to use TMPEnc Mpeg tools and de-multiplex the file into a m2v and ac3. I then have to convert the AC3 to wav before i can load them both into TMPGEnc Plus and convert to 16:9. The conversion isnt perfect as the black bars are higher on the deleted scenes and they drop about an inch after the movie returns to the 16:9 parts. Anyone know how to fix this?

    4) I go through the deleted scenes and cut out individual scenes with TMPG mpeg editor so that i can have separate mpegs for each scene. I then use WOMBLE MPEG2VCR and put the scenes back into the episode where i think they go.

    5) Video is jumpy in VLC player and not in WMP but i use TMPEnc Plus to convert the entire episode into 16:9 DVD format (even though it should already be in this format) and it plays fine in VLC player now.

    6) Use TMPG DVD author and author the episodes into a DVD again.

    7) Use DVD shrink on the DVD folder and burn the disc.

I am looking for ways to cut down on my steps so i do not have to take this long to do what i want. Also, i want to be able to convert the letterbox to anamorphic and not have the black bars change. If i cannot do that, i will be ok because it is hardly noticeable. I guess i am just being picky. Thanks for any help!

Use something like DVD Decryptor to rip the DVD instead. You can very easily set it to rip everything to individual parts. For instance, the episodes are either stored in one title with each episode being a different PGC, or they are stored all in separate titles. Just let DVD Decryptor autodetect the main feature and you'll see how it is organized. Then in settings, make DVD Dec rip to this. (ex: set it to rip to PGC.) Now go into stream settings and set it to demux. After ripping you'll have an mpg stream and the AC3 track for each of your episodes, all stored separate. Do the same for the deleted scenes. You can very easily and quickly rip the DVD into all the specific parts you need, down to the individual audio and video streams.

As for re-editing it all together, the episodes probably are stored as something wider than 1.78:1, which is what you get when you matte 4:3 to 16:9. You need to crop some of the picture on top and bottom. How much depends on the aspect ratio of the episodes. You can just do trial and error in TMPGenc. Also there is no need to reprocess your audio when encoding the deleted scenes. Just process the video and then remultiplex it with the untouched AC3 track. You can use TMPGenc for this. Look in mpeg tools/multiplex.

Hi I would do it this way....

1.Rip the whol DVD with RipIt4me (best ripper around using DVD decrypter and FixVTS)

2.Load the vob files into Projectx and cut out the wanted parts. The program will demux the vob
and you will get a videofile and a audiostream(s) and subs in three different files...

3.Open the .m2v file in VirtualdubMOD and use the null transform filter to get rid of the black bars
Then add the resize filter and resize the video to (720x576 PAL) or (720x480 NTSC).
Frameserve the video to HC encoder and encode...Well here you could use TMPGenc plus to do
    the cropping and encoding..

    4. Author the files with TMPG DVD author...

Hint if you want to join the episodes to one big file you can use Mpeg2schnitt This program can also do
the cutting and its frame accurate....no sync problems....

If you have got the wrong fieldorder BFF/TFF when encoding use restream to get it right whitout re encoding.

If you use projectx or mpeg2schnitt when editing you can see which fieldorder the clip have (in the gui).
When you encode the clip you must have set the right fiieldorder or else you clip will be jumpy....
This effect may not show up on your computer monitor, but surely in your TV....

If you have diferent clips with different field order you must deinterlace (progressive) them all
to get them on the same DVD.

    happy editing

    regards stars.....

I think the reason the video is jumpy is because of the parts (deleted scenes) are not encoded to the 'exact' same settings the rest of the un-reencoded video is. When you then reencoded the video it all becomes the same settings and then plays correctly. If you get the settings right of the re-encoded deleted scenes so they match exactly the rest of the video you can simply add these scenes with your author program (Tmpgenc Dvd Author) and they will play seamlessly. Making that whole reencode process unnecessary.

I would also rip with DVD Decrypter, instead of Shrink.

Those deleted scenes you could, with VirtualDubMpeg2 or Mod, load the vob files directly, add the Null Transform video filter, then hit the Cropping button and drag the crop screen to your desired point. Add a resize filter then frameserve that to Tmpgenc. With a little investigation you can get the crop to match the rest of the video.

Tmpgenc won't work AC3 so set it for System-Video Only. In Tmpgenc DVD Author you can add the video then get the audio (AC3) straight from the original vob file by select audio - all files - then select the proper vob. Thus making all that demuxing unnecessary.

Also, you could do your editing/splicing in Author makeing the above suggestion actually work.

    Good luck.

stars method doesn't convert to AVI with VDMod, It just edits the size. When you frameserve it, the encoder re-encodes the edited size and crops. VDMod isn't encoding or saving the file. Or as mentioned, you can do that with TMPGEnc encoder. Either way if you resize or crop, you will need to re-encode. The re-encode settings would determine your quality.

To frameserve with VD or VDM: https://www.videohelp.com/virtualdubframeserve.htm[/b]
