Does anyone know why the firewire input on most DVD recorders only accepts a DV signal from a camcorder, not from a computer or DV deck? I want to record the output from my Media100 video editing system (Mac G4, OS X Tiger) onto DVD, using firewire. When I connected the firewire output from my computer to the firewire input on an LG DVD recorder, the deck rejected the DV signal as "incompatible". Yet the same firewire signal sent to my Sony DSR-11 DV deck records perfectly. Why would DVD recorders have limited specs on firewire inputs? And has anyone had any luck recording DVDs via firewire from a non-camcorder source, e.g. a DV deck or a computer? I've heard that some Lite-On DVD recorders work but don't want to invest in one without knowing it will be compatible.

    Thanks.

Is there a MAC program allows you to "Recording to DV device", from MAC thru firewire ?

I don't know about the LG recorder, but this is how it works with my Mac and my Pioneer DVR-510H. The Pioneer can only accept DV 25 video, the same as is created by a camcorder. As long as that is the format I'm exporting from the Mac, the Pioneer will receive and record it. However, I cannot use the Pioneer's menu for importing from a camcorder. Instead I choose DV as the input channel (where I can select the tuner channel or a line input - one of the choices is DV). The Firewire link must be connected before launching iMovie or other DV export application. When I press play the Pioneer displays the video and can record it.
