Tried converting .mkv with ffmpegx... ending up getting bizarro frame rates. The video is 29.97 but my completed file would be .8 FPS or 24.6 FPS or any number of other bizarre frame rates.

So... I downloaded mkvtoolnix and went to work with the terminal. No problem using mkvinfo, but when I try to run mkvextract I get this error message:

dyld: /usr/local/bin/mkvextract can't open library: /usr/lib/libbz2.1.0.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)

Using the power of google, I figure I need the libedml and libmatroska librarys for mkvextract to work. The problem is I can't find the Mac OSX binaries anywhere! The mkvtoolnix website has the binaries for windows, linux, etc., but not for OSX. I can get the source code, but I've never done any compiling myself. I don't relish the hours(days?) it will take me to figure out how to do that.

Does anyone know where I can get those libraries? Is there some kind soul who uses mkvextract with a mac on a regular basis that can send me libedml and libmatroska? [/b]

  2. It's a problem with running 10.3.9. I gave up trying to get it going in the end. I've since moved to a machine running Tiger but will MKVXextract (GUI) linked to by jpschuck in this thread run under Panther ?

Yeah, I'm running 10.3.9. Brilliant. I opened up the MKVextract GUI, and no, it didn't work. That's why I was trying to run it through the terminal. But since I can't even get mkvextract to run through the terminal, it stands to reason that the GUI isn't going to work either.

This is strange indeed. The official site states that latest MKVToolnix (1.6.5) works on Panther. And I'm pretty sure I was using it back when I was under Mac OS X 10.3.9. Libmatroska and libdml are not needed (I'm sure I never installed them on Tiger and they are surely not included in the system !).

Can you found the mentioned library (libbz2.1.0.dylib) in /usr/lib ?

This is what I found in my /usr/lib directory:

    libz.1.1.3.dylib
    libz.1.dylib
    libz.dylib

So I guess my question now is, what library is that exactly, and how do I upgrade 1.1.3 to version 2.1.0?

Well, I finally bit the bullet and used my wife's PC to demux the .mkv files (although if anyone can help with that missing library thing, please don't hesitate). Although now the resulting avi file seems to have an incorrect framerate.

The original mkv's running time is 24:30, but when I open up the demuxed avi file in QT or ffmpegX, the new running time is around 20 minutes. ?????? The aac file that I pulled out of the container, however, has the correct length of 24:30. I checked the framerates of both the mkv and the avi, but ffmpegX reports them both to have a fps of 29.97.

Obviously, I can't use the new avi file. So what gives? (perhaps I should take this question to the ffmpegX forum)
