It has been a very long time since I have checked, and I can remember when DVD Shrink as well as DVD Decrypter were being regularly updated. I am curious to know whether newer programs are out that improve at all upon them? After burning some sixty-something DVD+R DLs, my greatest wish is still to have the ability to either remove the copyright messages or blank them out. Especially since buying a plasma TV, as every second it displays something counts. That is in fact the whole reason I burn DVDs in the first place: to rid myself of copyright messages. Anyone else who lives in a PAL country will understand that.

About the only improvement for Shrink/Decrypter I use regularly is ImgBurn for burning. You can get a version of Shrink that automatically burns with ImgBurn: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=63869

Of course there is RipIt4Me and DVD Fab Decrypter for the newer encryptions. I haven't used RipIt4Me, but it may help with your other problems. Worth looking into, anyway.

EDIT: I see Digital Digest has a new guide for DVD Shrink/ImgBurn/RipIt4Me: http://www.digital-digest.com/articles/RipIt4Me_DVD_Shrink_Quick_Backup_page1.html

    Nilfennasion,

It sounds like RipIt4Me was written specifically for you. Even in "One-Click Mode", you can just put a checkmark next to the "Make DVD jump to menu upon insertion" option, and the resulting (state of the art) rip will skip over all the garbage, and go straight to the menu. Of course, the garbage is still there, you just never see it. At that point, though, it's easy to use VobBlanker to blank out the "invisible" garbage (if you want).

If you're not interested in the "extras" on the dvd, you can also use the "Movie + Menus" option to strip out everything except the movie and menus as it rips.

If you don't want the menus either, you can rip using the "Movie Only" option.

VobBlanker is a very good program used after ripping and before DVDShrink. It allows you to blank out any part of the DVD image you do not want, especially all the crap that shows before you get to the menu. All buttons on the menus still work, but they don't look like they're doing anything since a blank screen flashes so fast you cann't see it. I use the following

    RipIt4Me or DVDFab Decrypter

FixVTS - fixes any problems with the DVD image

VobBlanker - to get rid of junk, and make as small as possible before DVDShrink, so DVD is shrunk as little as possible, therefore retaining as much quality as possible.

    DVDShrink

    Nero or Imgburn 2
