FYI. I've found out what is wrong with ZoneAlarm. It is caused by the web browser. TrueVector is an internet security listener - it is a windows services based app.

The fix is to select > my computer > control panel > administrator > services and then select the truevector item and try to right click it and select "do not start automatically". This will fail because the message that you getting is because the truevector services is "starting" . Windows will then say that it cannot process that request. Move on - this is required to trigger the error message in windows.

Step 2 - you will then click on start > run and type in msconfig. Then select the services and uncheck the "truevector" item. Click on apply and then save settings and restart the machine.

    This should solve your problem.

    Cheers.

Having installed and uninstalled the Zone Alarm firewalls on a number of occasions, I can tell you that you will NEVER completely remove every trace of the install. Still, add/remove programs, then search terms "zone", "za", "zls", and "true vector", for manual file system deletion of various fragments, then the same search terms in the registry. What might remain after that should not cause a problem, but just having to deal with all of that is a real PITA !!!

www.filehippo.com has a good link to download/install the Sygate firewall (ver. 5.6.402). I'm using that very firewall right now and as was posted earlier, it remains a very good, unobtrusive firewall. Should you choose to try a different version of Zone Alarm or the Comodo fw, file hippo has those as well as others.

    Good luck !
