Hi
A problem has suddenly developed on my computer. When I switch on all goes OK with no probs but if I double click on a folder on my desktop everything disappears just leaving the wall paper then it all comes back and I have to right click on the folder and then click open. If I click on the start button and click on control panel exactly the same thing happens. I have to right click on control panel and click on open then click on folders and click on restore defaults and apply then I can open all the folders OK, but as soon as I reboot the computer It reverts back to the problem. Has anyone had the same problem and cured it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Have you tried doing a restore to a date before all this happened? It's sounding more like your Windows install may be corrupted. Or something in the Registry. Have you added any programs lately, especially antivirus/scanning/security programs?
Open Task Manager and check to see what programs and processes are running. Also look in performance. Click on a folder while doing this and watch your CPU level. It may max out before Explorer resets. Also see how much memory/CPU 'explorer.exe' is using.
A few things you can try. Boot in 'safe mode' and see if you have the same problems there. That will keep some drivers from loading. You could also try a virus scan from Trend Micro to see if virus/trojans are a cause. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Your problem appears to be in Explorer. When it tries to open a folder, it crashes. That will blank the screen and it will reset a few seconds later. This normally happens when you try to open a corrupted file or folder. Since not all your folders are corrupt, Explorer is likely the problem. It's integrated with XP, so not so easy to fix. All this is just a guess, though. If Restore doesn't work, or any of the above, you might consider reinstalling Windows. -
Sorted my problem. I had Panda Titanium 2007 antivirus installed and that was causing the problem , took it off and everything worked well. Installed The Shield 2006 antivirus no problems at all.
