  1. I set up a new rig for my girlfriend a couple years ago. It has a Sapphire Radeon x700 Pro in it and a budget Envision 17" CRT. Lately there has been a lot of flicker along the bottom edge of the screen. I'm trying to figure out if it's the monitor or the video card causing it. I don't have a spare monitor to test on it though at this time. I notice it seems to be fine for a while after startup, but within an hour the flicker starts. Any way to test this more in depth? Diagnostic programs maybe?

  2. Is there a degauss button on the monitor?Static electricity could be the problem.
My guess it's a videocard heat problem, open the PC case and use a fan on the inside...if it still occurs then it's the monitor.

    hi,
what you may want to do is first check yourmonitor manual and see what the refresh rate is and then go into your display properties and if the refresh settings fit the monitor...

another thing.... although not sure if this will do anything for you.... go into the display proerties and lower the hardware accelerator see if that helps

  4. I ran a degauss and nothing yet but we'll see if the problem returns. I have the refresh set to 75. Max on the monitor is 85 at this resolution so that shouldn't be the issue. Als as for cooling, I'm got this in an Antec Sonata II case with extra fans. It runs about 32C tops, usually idles at 26C. I don't think overheating is an issue.

Since all we can do is guess my guess is: the monitor.

  6. I'm thinking it's the monitor too, since it was a cheapy monitor. The video card is pretty good to my knowledge. I'll have to get a hold of anothe monitor to test with it and see. It's flickering again shortly after degauss.
