Can anyone suggest a good free program to join either vob files, or ideally mp4 files to make 1 file out of several that get created from a conversion from dvd

    Thanks

If they are AVI type formats, try VirtualDub or VirtualDub Mod. Mod will accept MPEG files, but only outputs AVI. For MPEG files, TMPGEnc encoder has 'Merge & Cut' under 'Tools', but it's not free. Or you could use most any MPEG editor. Cuttermaran is free, or there are several listed in our 'Tools' section to the left under 'Video Editors'.

For VOB files, it depends on why you want to join them. You would normally extract the MPEG files first and join them.

  3. To join vob files, use vobedit.

Some Software Converters will automatically link your VOBS when you import them, Some rippers like "DVD Decrypter" can be set so they don't split the VOBS into 1 Gig Chunks, DVD Decrypter should be used with Ripit4Me for current DVD's though. Lastly YAMB will join MPEG-4 files.

    GMaq !!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

At last a program that works, is easy and is free!

I have tried the others mentioned here and cant for the life of me figure out how to get them to work. VOBedit??? HUH??? what the heck is that about??? The others wont do the vob, or the mp4, but YAMB EASY, FREE, WORKS! Just add the multi mp4's that were created from the VOBs and VOILA! I now have one file for one movie!

Thank you again! Nice when things you THINK should be easy, and have not been, suddenly are!

    Diane,
There is a version 2.0 of YAMB coming soon, it has a lot nicer GUI and looks a little more user friendly, but as is it's a great little application !!

I'll keep an eye out for new version, but I gotta telll ya , the one I downloaded is just fine. The GUI was easy enought and very intuitive. I was able to take all my multi mp4 movies that were created from all my dvd converted vob files, that made like 4 or 5 files per movie, very annoying. Now I have one nice file for each movie and a fairly easy process for converting any DVD to an iPod ready file!!

    Thanks again
