    guns1inger, thank you!

I have just encoded an avi clip this way. The final DVD plays perfectly well on Philips. The picture is very good though usually its picture way worse that from Panasonic.

Panasonic plays tha same DVD but the picture breaks in many places. I suspect it's a Panasonic problem though.

The breakup could also be the PAnny not being happy with the disc for other reasons. Does the PAnny usually like this brand ?

Honestly, I am not sure as I did not play them often on Panasonic as I mostly burnt AVIs and it does not play them.

    It often breaks picture anyway.

The brand is (holy cow, I never can pronounce or write it) dvd toydo uniden (sorry, I do not have a disk handy).

What could be the possible problem(s) with the original? When I encode it just with 29.97, everything goes perfectly well.

Could it be different if I use 23.976 instead of 25? The last one that was succesful was encoded with 23.976 and after that converted to 29.976.

    Thank you!

You can't nicely go back to 23.976 because you would have to throw away frames to do it, usually resulting in jerkiness. You actually encoded at 25 fps, but the pulldown tells the player to play it back at 29.97 fps. Had you encoded at 23.976, you will still have to apply pulldown to playback at 29.97.

You did apply the pulldown with DGPulldown, didn't you ?

TY discs are well regarded around here, however that doesn't guarantee playback. If the Panny is twitchy anyway, find a third party machine for further tests.

Yes, I did apply DGPulldown. It is pretty straightforward even for a newbie like myself -)

Thank you for the advice. It is a good idea to get something new to try the disks.

Thank you very much for your time! I really appreciate your advices.
