TV Station ident removal..

When recording a programme from certain TV stations they put their great big ident logo where it becomes a big distraction ( ITV 4 UK uses) is there a way to remove these annoying logos when I save to disk via a encoder? and if so could you point me in the right direction

That depends on the level of transparency of the logo and how clean the source video is. Some logos can be removed without leaving any noticable artifacts. But if the logo (or parts of it) is opaque or is in motion then DeLogo blending will leave noticable "blobbing".

Delogo can indeed remove most alpha-blended logos quite well, and does not leave a blurry blob when used correctly.

For really stubborn logos, you can run more than 1 instance of delogo. On 1 really tough project, I used 3 instances of Delogo. The first one was set for only alpha-blended removal of 1 of the logo parts. The second was with both repair and deblend removal, and the 3rd instance was repair only. This was needed as this particular logo had both an alpha-blended logo, and a solid logo.

I have found that on some unstable logos, where the logo shifts left and right a hair because of instability of the station, a comb filter can really help. I use the dot-crawl filter for those before I make the mask.
