Hello:
If I delete a file extension from the registered file types will I be able to make a new file extension with the same name and will that file be able to be accessed the same as the old file with the same name? (I hope I'm not confusing you?)
I DON'T want to take a chance and delete the BUP, IFO or VOB file extensions from the file list if that means that I then wont be able to access ie play those files in various applications(WinDVD, Media Player etc.)
What I want is to have the old names of the various files as opposed to the new names show up under the "Type" of file heading in Windows explorer.
File Names Extensions Before installing Showtime
Type
BUP
IFO
VOB
File Extension Names changed to After installing Showtime
Type
Backup File of the IFO
DVD Movie info
DVD Movie

From what you show in your .bmp, delete the VOB2. Change the association of the remaining VOB to whatever player you use to open them. Delete the IFO and the BUP listings if they are there. They aren't needed and will return to their proper filetypes (BUP File and IFO File) under the 'Type' listing.
In the case of the remaining VOB, Windows may offer to restore the original settings. Look for a 'Restore' box when you click on the VOB file. If not, you will still be OK.
And you could have added this post to your other one instead of creating a new post. -
You want the old descriptions (the ones you had before installing showtime)?
If that's what you want, just click advanced on the window on the pic you posted, and change the description there. -

As for the reason I made a totally new post; well I figured that since a ton of people had already viewed it and passed on that maybe me clarifying what exactly I wanted would help and someone would come along and know what it was I was trying to do and obviously it
worked.
Thanks again -

Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time out to answer what some might consider to be a an inane question. -
The main thing is that you seem to have resolved the problem. I agree, programs should not make those sort of changes. Windows XP is fairly robust. You can usually revert or change things back to the way they were before the problem occurred. And most of the time it will tell you if you are making a major mistake.
We would rather that members stay with the original post for the benefit of others that may have a similar problem. It just makes it easier for them to search for a solution if all the info is in the same post.
Any further problems, just let us know. Nero (Ahead) has some fine programs. But they try to do everything and succeed in doing none of them very well. That's similar to other all-in-one programs. You are better off to learn the how and why and use the individual programs that seem to work the best. It takes more study, but the results are almost always better.
We have guides for most any application and solution. And we have a FAQ that answers many common problems. Both are worthwhile reading.
And if I haven't said it before, Welcome to our forums. -

The icons also changed, didn't they? If so, you can choose what icon you want for each file type on that window too.
