I finally figured out that you have to use mencoder and not ffmpeg in order to burn subs to an .avi file, but I am at a loss as to how to change the font size (using 0.0.9x). I load up my .ssa file, set the position, set the font size, and click preview to make sure it looks fine. However, when I encode the file and open it up later, the font size is always the same and its always very very very small. Changing the font size in the filters tab will affect my preview window, but it seems to have zero effect on my finished file.

I've looked around and I have a feeling there's a simple solution to this, but I haven't figured it out yet. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

  2. It seems that the current build of mencoder has still some bugs concerning subtitle fonts or size. You may try to revert temporarily to an older build like this http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/mplayerosx/ffmpegXbinaries230105.zip?download

I use the ".9s" version of mencoder. If you need just that binary, PM me and I'll zip it and eMail it to you.

I keep both the 9s and 9w versions around and swap 'em out as needed.

Ah, sweet sweet .9s version of mencoder! Popped in the file that rumple gave me and it worked like a charm. Nice, big, readable subs.

    Thanks for all the help.
