I'm trying to convert a mkv file to an avi divx. So I drop the mkv file in, go to the filtes pane and load the subs. Then I press preview, Mplayer appears, I hear sound but I see no video or even play window. Then I force quit it and ffmpegx gives me this error:

    Code:
/Users/Ryankop/.spumux/Arial.ttf doesn't look like a font description, ignoring. Cannot load font: /Users/Ryankop/.spumux/Arial.ttf [mkv] Unknown/unsupported CodecIC (V_MPEG4/ISO/ASP) or missing/bad CodecPrivate data (track 1).

MPlayer interupted by signal 15 in module: play_audio
Can anyone make sense out of that?

You should exit mplayer with the Return or Escape key.

Doesn't exactly solve my question. Won't it also be impossible to encode with subtitles if mplayer can't view it? I tried it in regular mplayer too and it only shows the audio but no video. For some reason VLC can view it. Help?

In VLC, with this movie open, get Information from the Window menu. Under Advanced Information, look what it says under Stream 0 and Stream 1 ("open" the triangles). All of that could be useful, but most interesting is the Codec of the video stream.

ISO MPEG-4 video with Ogg Vorbis audio. Nothing extraordinary about that for MKV, as far as I can tell. Weird that mplayer doesn't handle it.

Any reason why it doesn't encode to any format of avi properly either?
