I have a problem to convert many xvid files (800 x 432) into lower resolution (720 or under) because my philips 5960 player cannot handle the file over 720 resolution. I was advised to use Auto GK and it worked just fine.
But, on some files, I have "unsupported audio file error" in auto GK. I was advised to convert both video (direct stream copy) and audio (full processing, convert into 22050hz with high quality in virtualdub. It looks like some members are successful, but not for me. I still got the same error message.
I found that Auto GK process the conversion when the audio is 224kbps/AC3 2ch. No matter how I set the audio bit rate in virtualdub, I couldn't convert it into 224kbp from 448kbps/5ch.
Please advise me how to do it.

Hi-
...convert into 22050hz with high quality in virtualdub.
22050hz and "high quality" are contradictions. If you convert, do it to 48000hz. I don't even think AutoGK supports 22050hz. I've never tried though, so I'm not positive.
I couldn't convert it into 224kbp from 448kbps/5ch.
Are you saying AutoGK can't convert DD 5.1 AC3@448 to MP3?. Must be something wrong with the AC3 if that's so. You might try extracting it and running it through AC3Fix. AutoGK won't convert AC3 to a different bitrate AC3 though. You might try converting to WAV audio in VDub.
And 800x432 isn't Hi-Def. -
I was able to convert existing DD 5.1AC3 448 into AC3 2channel 224. or wav. (demux audio and convert it wav 192k 2ch, then remux with video at virtualdubmod)But, still got an same error message (AVIoutputwav: filename, directoryname, or volume label syntax is incorrect). So, the issue is not resolved even if I converted it into other type of file (2channel AC3 or wav/mp3).
But, not all DD 5.1 AC3 files got an error in Auto GK. Only certain flies that had resolution (800 or above x xxx) had the errors. Same audio with lower resolution (720 or under) works just fine.
I was wondering if Auto GK is still the best solution to change the resolution of Xvid files (only resolution change is needed, while keeping everything else). -
Hi-
I apologize, but I haven't seen or heard of that problem before (and I mod the GKnot/AutoGK forum at Doom9). Do you have the latest version (2.33)? It seems really peculiar that above certain resolutions the audio isn't accepted. About all I can suggest is to feed AutoGK the video without any audio (disable it in VDubMod, Direct Stream the video, and Save), demux the audio, and remux when AutoGK gets done with reencoding the video, allowing for the size of the audio and the overhead.
I realize this is a screwy way to go about it, and I'd be curious if one of the other apps can handle it better. Maybe.
And you might report the problem (bug?) in the main AutoGK thread over at Doom9 where the developer, len0x, is sure to see it:

If you've never registered before, you'll have to wait 5 days after registering before posting. Good luck.
