My CD Writer Not Stable in reading / writing on XP

Sony CXR175A or 175A1 or Imation 12x8x32 on XP pro 2600 as either single on sec master or share with a DVD-ROM drive or 20M hardisk.
Mobo CUSL2-C with latest-final bios

Weirdness:

If the PC boot with one of my home-made data cd, it can detect it. Eject. Tray out. Tray in. Now that CD no more recognised by the drive.

That's mean, If I put a blank CD, reboot, burn - The CD readable on other drives/ VCD standalone. Any burning session afterward (without reboot) will produce coaster (I have more than 20 now with only 2 playable CD).

Any ideas how to overcome this problem?
