I have two cyberhome CH-DVD300 zs, bios 18s, mfg April 2004. BOth have been continuously plugged in to ac power since original purchase, but both have extremely low usage hours and have not been turned ON in about six months. Both are deader than a doornail. Unit 1 has no power pilot light glowing, all buttons on the unit and on the remote, do nothing. Unit two shows the amber standby light, but all controls, panel and remote, do nothing. If I force open #2 with the mechanical eject mechanism, it automatically closes the drawer upon plugging the unit in, but remains 100% non functional. On Unit1 the tray will stay out upon plugging the unit in. It seems like "dry-rot" due to disuse....any ideas on how to bring these units back to life?

  2. These Cyberhome units have been known to have power supply problems. If you want yours fixed, here's a site that may help...

...but since they're only about $30 right now, just buying a new one might be better.

The Philips DVP-5140 is a cheap DVD player that has a simple remote control "hack" to make it region free and it does "excellent" PAL to NTSC conversion. I mention this because most people that bought the old Cyberhome DVD players (I still have a Cyberhome CH-DVD 500 myself) bought them for the fact that they were easy-to-make region free and did "excellent" PAL to NTSC conversion.

You will notice that I said "excellent" PAL to NTSC. That is because there is one DVD player out there that does an even better nearly flawless PAL to NTSC conversion and that is the OPPO DIGITAL OPDV971H and it does such a wonderful job because it uses the Faroudja DCDi chipset which is rather rare in DVD players and yes it can be made region free very easily. The only "hitch" is the price which is $199.00 US Dollars plus shipping.

The Philips DVP-5140 is only about $55.00 US Dollars from WAL-MART.

Here is a link to the OPPO DIGITAL website ---> CLICK HERE

    Good Luck !!!

I'd agree with that assesment. They are so cheap these days repairing them doesn't make sense.
