I have recorded a football game in mpeg2 and its ~12GBs....I'd like to split it up into 2 dvds....to do this, i must cut out the ads.
what would be the best program to do this? (cut out segments from a big mpeg2 file). tried tmpgenc, but there's no easy option to cut out a segment.
i've tried able's mpeg2 and it keeps freezing up on my pc.

mpeg2vcr works great and does exactly what i wanted.
another question, how would i go about burning these as dvds?
im currently just burning them as data cds.
the files are ~4gb each mpeg2 and nero wont let you chose dvd-video if file is > 2gb.
how can i convert it without decoding/re-encoding? -
If they are dvd compliant you can author to a dvd-video with for example Tmpgenc DVD Author...TDA will report if they aren't dvd compliant.
Or burn as a data(no dvd-video) and select udf and you can burn bigger files than 2GB. But this wont work on many standalone dvd players. -
You need to use a DVD Authoring program.
Here is a list of such programs: CLICK HERE
As far as FREEWARE goes there is "dvd author" and there are some GUI's out there for using it but you kinda have to create your own menu from scratch and it really isn't the easiest thing to do if you are a newbie.
For something simple I would try TMPGEnc DVD Author but of course it ain't FREEWARE but it is one of the better DVD Authoring programs around in terms of ease-of-use and just being a solid working program. Not the most feature rich but good enough for most projects (it is the DVD Authoring program I use the most although I have a couple other such programs that are harder-to-use but have more features).
When I say features I mean stuff like selectable subtitles, mutlple audio tracks, support for DTS audio, more customization of menu designs etc.
All nice stuff but stuff you normally don't need most times.

I use guiforDVDauthor, which is great, but takes a little study. There are also some very simple authoring apps that can take these and make a single-movie DVD fileset. Two I can recommend: Muxman and Rejig. Both work the same way: Select your video and audio files as above, then select an output folder. When it's done you'll have a folder called "VIDEO_TS" with a bunch of VOB and other files. Point your burning app to this folder and burn it to a DVD and you should be done.
