  1. My Windows Media Player 10 plays mp3 cds, audio cds, vcds all fine with sound. However, when I put in dvd movies, it will play the video, but no sound. This only happens with dvd audio. I dont get it? I have all the latest updates from windows.

The DVDs probably have AC3 audio and you don't have an AC3 decoder.

  3. gadgetguy, i dont get it, when downloaded Windows Media Player 10 for my computer desktop, I dont remember downloading additional ac3 audio? The Windows Media player 10 works fine (both audio and video) on my desktop. Did I download a different bundle on my laptop?

I downloaded the win media player 10 directly from the microsoft website. It shoulda included everything I need?

AC3 decoders don't come with Windows or WMP. They usually come with DVD player software or are downloaded and installed separately.

some decoders are registered for specific software, in your case WMP is not registered with the cyberlink .dll's
