My Windows Media Player 10 plays mp3 cds, audio cds, vcds all fine with sound. However, when I put in dvd movies, it will play the video, but no sound. This only happens with dvd audio. I dont get it? I have all the latest updates from windows.

The DVDs probably have AC3 audio and you don't have an AC3 decoder.

gadgetguy, i dont get it, when downloaded Windows Media Player 10 for my computer desktop, I dont remember downloading additional ac3 audio? The Windows Media player 10 works fine (both audio and video) on my desktop. Did I download a different bundle on my laptop?
I downloaded the win media player 10 directly from the microsoft website. It shoulda included everything I need? -
Repeat: you need an AC3 decoder:

AC3 decoders don't come with Windows or WMP. They usually come with DVD player software or are downloaded and installed separately.
