Earlier in the year, Korean electronics giant LG indicated it was considering such a product, but now says it doesn't have such a device on its current road map. Other major electronics makers had already decided to pursue single-format players for now, so LG's indicated direction gave hope to some analysts that the format war might be bridged this year.

Eventually, all will produce Blueray, HDDVD, DVD+-RW, CD-RW ... if the market is ready to accept the technologies!

Sony was the 1st betrayed its comrades by including DVD+RW, it unhappened! Consumers love the betrayal - consumers now benefitted with both - and + RW.

If you want to get technical, the DRU-500a came first. It did +R and -R as well.

Yes, it was the DRU-500A, the first ever dual format + and - burner to appear on the market. I remember so as the DRU-500A was my first ever burner (and cost me £300 back then).

Not if you hold out until prices drop significantly, which most people will until theres a unified format or a dual burner for both formats.
