i have a video file (wmv) which i was attempting to download, but the download didnt work, so i was left with this wmv file in a folder on my desktop that was only 80kb in size and had no content. thing is, now i try to go in that folder to use the other stuff in there, the movie file causes an error in windows explorer and dr watson shuts it down. i am unable to get into the folder for long enough to change its settings from thumbnail view to list, to stop explorer crashing. so how the hell can i get rid of this file? any ideas?

open up a MSDOS prompt. Then type the command,
del "<path>\<filename>"
make sure <path> includes the drive letter (e.g., c:\my downloads) and if the path and / or filename have any space in them make sure you use quotes as shown above. -
If you have XP, Try, Press start, Press search, press all files + folders, enter the name of the offending file, then press search, when it comes up, delete from there

ok thanx for all your replies but i sorted the problem now. what i did was rar the folder then viewed the contents of the rar file in the rar program, deleted the individual file with it, then unrar the folder back onto my desktop. problem solved. thanx for all replies anyway.

You missed the \ from the dos command you typed c:blahblah when it should have been c:\blahblah
