I had this drive (plextor 716-AL) installed in a PC with windows XP and was using Nero 6 ultra edition. I have a spindle of 100 TDK DVD-R. The drive worked fine with with this media in this setup. I recently built an HTPC with Win XP Media Center Edition 2005 and I moved the drive from the old machine to the new setup. I have all of the windows updates installed as well as the drivers for the rest of my hardware. I did not install Nero on this machine as I was planning on using the built in burning software in Windows. Windows sees the drive and shows the correct model number and everything. The drive even shows up as a DVD-R/RW drive in my computer. However, when I insert one of the blank TDK DVD-R that I have, it changes to a CD-R drive. I tried burning a PC image in Acronis True Image 9 and this software sees the drive as a CD-R drive as well. I have not installed Nero or the plextools, but I did not think that I would need them. Doesn't the drive recognize the media via the firmware? Any suggestions?
