Which seasons of Transformers the cartoon were set on earth, with Optimus Prime(Big Rig) and Megatron (Gun)? Was it just seasons 1&2, and then it went to space episodes? With the newer Transformers (Rotmis Prime, etc)?

S1 was a short season, on Earth, just a few Autobots and Decepticons, few Earthlings (good and bad). Mostly in rural areas.

S2 was longer, full season. Again, on Earth, but with many more TFs and more Earth cities. Lots of Gestalts and Cybertron travel (Shockwave was in charge).

Then TF: The Movie came (at least in the USA! Not everywhere! Some folks in other countries were confused as hell!) Optimus died, Megatron turns to Galvatron, other new characters added, some old ones killed or fleshed out. It starts on Earth and goes into space very early in the movie, back to Cybertron and Unicron.

S3 was a mix, but mostly on Cybertron, with Junkions, with Unicron, etc. There were some Optimus ghost and Starscream ghost episodes. S3 had a mix of old and new TFs too.

S4 was the return of Optimus and the uprising of the Headmasters, very short.

The Japanese Headmasters series ignores S4 of USA TF G1. Optimus stayed dead, and the Headmaster heads are not aliens. These are Headmasters and Targetmasters. Again, a mix of old and new TFs.

After HM, you also have Masterforce, which was Powermasters and Pretenders. We got the toys in the USA, just not the episodes. Powermaster Prime (Godmaster Ginrai) in this show is of no relation to the original Prime, although it was hinted that the truck used was the lifeless shell leftover from the earlier Prime.

And last was Victory, not seen outside Asia, same for the toys. Wheeljack makes an appearance in this show, but it's mostly new TFs.

Singapore's StarTV translated (very badly!) the HM/MF/V series into English. It is available on unofficial Hong Kong releases. A UK R2 company is or was releasing some of these, starting with the HM series.

There is also a short-lived special called Scramble City and a pilot for another failed show called Zone. Zone made a comic series in a popular Japanese magazine, just not a toon or toys. Well, there were toys, just not anything major, they were junky little freebies.

Beast Wars sort-of half-ass ties into G1, but not really. Real loose. Beast Machines is the sequel to Beast Wars.

Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo are either elseworlds or alternate activities in the Beast Wars world. These are Japanese only, and animated. There are some fansubs and even some fandubs of episodes of this series.

Robots In Disguise, Armada/Energon and Cybertron can all be considered "what if" type stories, with alternate universes. Same goes for all the comics ever released in the 80s, 90s and even currently.

I'm guessing you've watched an episode or two.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

  9. Pretty much everything Lord Smurf said was correct.

The only thing I would add is that "season 4" is not really a "season." Its a 3 part episode called "rebirth" that basically leads into HM.

The DVDs are available in whole Boxsets, or individual DVDs of each.

Better to buy the boxsets. For example this is the whole, 4-disc, season 1 set:

And this "Season 1 Volume 1", is just a single, first disc in the set.

I have no idea what one would want to buy the individual discs each, and not just the boxset. Also since Season 2&3 had many episodes, both with divided into two boxsets each.

    Specically:

    Season 1- 1 Boxset.
    Season 2- 2 boxsets
Season 3- 2 boxsets w/season 4 on the second set.

    Yeah.

All you have to do is look at the discription to see how many discs are included.
