  1. The VOB file is 550MB, yet I end up with a file 38MB when trying to author a DVD with TMPEnc DVD Author. The output file is really nothing more than the created menu and a small portion of the VOB. Suggestions?

how did you make the vob? downloaded? ripped? try fix it with it for example Videoredo first (quickstream fix) or demultiplex it(split audio and video) with pvastrumento and import the video and audio files in tmpgenc.

  3. Go to chapter edit, and slide thru the entire VOB file's video. That is to confirm the VOB file is intact and not broken.

Using the slide feature in the chapter edit section, only the last 20 seconds of a 15 minute VOB is shown. This is also apparent in the chapter edit thumbnails.
After the first viewing, I can then move the slide back to the start point. The VOB then appears to play the full 15 minutes. However, the thumbernails still just show the last 20 seconds.

It is a downloaded VOB, from a private members only torrent site.

Probably some kind of error in the VOB.
Now, VOBs are the end product of authoring, not something that's meant as source material for anything (even if some apps like TDA accepts it).
Try converting it to mpg (which is a better start for authoring a DVD) with vob2mpg.

Does vob2mpg encode or just convert?
Is there quality loss with vob2mpg?

No loss, no encoding, no conversion - just repackaging the video and audio back to a format more suitable as source material for creating a video DVD.

I used vob2mpg on this vob. And sadly ended up with the same results. TDA would only use the first 22 seconds of a 12 minute vob.
I tried Power Producer, it accepted the vob, but more than doubled its size. During playback the Power Producer created dvd pauses in spots, like dvds created on some Panny dvd recorders. I guess I may need to repair this dvd or maybe re-install TDA.

I guess you'll have to find this video you so desire in a not damaged format.

I just tried fixvts, and ended up with the same results. TDA only allows 22 seconds of the video. Now, the "slide" feature in the chapter edit section will let you scroll thru the entire vob.

  13. I tried a few other vobs with TDA. TDA seems to only be allowing just a few seconds to play. Out of 5 vobs, only one played from begining to end. The rest played just a few seconds from the start point.
