I am having a problem with Nero and other programs hanging after finishing or when I am trying to close them. Windows 2000 says that the program cannot be closed because it is being debugged. I have researched and found that Dr Watson is the Windows 2000 debugger. However, I cannot find info on how to disable Dr Watson debugging, or how to stop the debugger so the app can close. I end up having to power down windows, which has already caused a problem with my new Segate 500GB drive.

Deleting it from the registry seems a bit extreme. But your second thought is good, however it is not a task I see running in Task Manager. I have very few Tasks listed in Task Manager. I have eliminated as many as possible to speed up windows.

I was wondering if you could turn it off as easily as microsoft says you can turn it back on. Perhaps deleting it from the registry is the only way. Deleting it from the registry seems like a last resort.

I want to stop the debugging of the program, so it can be closed. It seems like you should be able to go into the debugger, and stop the debugger debugging the current program.

you can easy make two batch file scripts on your desktop - one to turn off and one to turn on ... then just click either one ...

    real simple to do

  6. It doesn't necessarily follow that Dr Watson is the culprit debugger here.

A lot of programs that have time limitations, built-in license handling etc (such as Nero), use one of a number of off-the-shelf tools to "wrap" the software in a shell that controls whether the main program should be allowed to run or not. These wrappers also server to prevent hackers from reverse engineering the product. One of the things that the wrappers do is act like debuggers themselves.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nero is crashing and it's own protection wrapper is preventing it from being closed down.
