There is a small hole in the front pannel use a paper clip inserted there and push that will unlatch the door.

  5. there is no hole, this is a draw type so i think the only thing to do is force it open and hope for the best.

Are you talking about a standalone dvd recorder or a drive in your pc ?

Because i'm guessing from your OP it's a standalone and other are assuming it's a driv ein your PC.

The only time i have had this problem on mine was a long time ago with a bad dvd-ram disc, never a dvdr disc.
Is it a pressed dvd, dvdr, dvdrw, ram ?

Anyway's, mine i had to unplug it for a few minutes then hit the eject button right after plugging it back, not turn on the power or give it time to start trying to read the disc!!
Just plugged it in and hit the eject button.

More than once I've had a DVD stuck in our Cyberhome CH-DVD300 DVD player. This happens usually because someone didn't put the DVD down into the inset in the tray or wasn't paying attention and loaded two DVDs at once. Try taking the case off (this may void your warranty) and taking the top off of your drive. On my DVD player it's a few screws on the outside of the case, then 4 screws on top of the drive itself, which is enough to be able to remove the DVD easily. Have had to do this 5-6 times because the kids weren't paying attention and there were two DVDs stacked on top of each other in the drive.

    YMMV.

If you haven't tried this, unplug the recorder for about a half an hour. Then the power supply might bleed off more. If that doesn't work, turn it off and with your finger on the eject button, turn it on. That sometimes works.

If you have to pull the tray out manually, make sure the unit is unplugged. Do it slowly. If it seems to be locked, give up before any damage.

You might pull the cover off the unit instead and see if there is any other way to get the disc out. You could unplug the data cable to the drive and power the unit up. Then hit the eject. But if the eject button is not on the drive itself, that won't help much.

Even if you don't have a manual, you should be able to download one from the manufacturer. Or at least see if they have a forum to ask questions. You might also try at CD Freaks. They seem to have pages that cover most all DVRs. http://www.cdfreaks.com/

Hold the power-off button in until all the lights go out. This can take some time. Then press eject.

Well he's talking about a dvd recorder not a player and my recorder the lights stay on and it show's the staus of a disc in the drive regardless if it is turned on or off, unlike a player mine reads a disc regardless if it is on or off also.

When a disc jammed in it nothing would work except unplugging it and plugging it back in & ejecting before the disc could be read, a standard dvd player does not read the disc and show the status when turned off, at least none i've ever seen.

It was jamming because it was trying to read a bad disc and nothing would make it stop.
