Ok, I see often larger companies like sony and now warner bros trying to maintain the status quo. Its like they have on the wall of the office "You will always buy dvd's from us!"

I think its time to move on and this is why -
    * You dont make what you produce available to everyone! yep thats right I have to weight 2 years before I get to watch the current season of TopGear here in Australia...

*You release DVD's with different features to different parts of the world! Yep I paid $71 AU for a dvd set that in America has cast commentary but my dvd doesn't..

I could go on but you get the picture, so this is what i offer as a solution.
    ================================================== ==========

    Give it to us free!
Think about this, If you downloaded your favourity show/movie for free you are gonna want extras.

Like george lukas, they can make money after the movie

    And this is why:

Sell dvd updates for a small free you can update the ifo/vob files to have special features. EG cast commentary / behind the seens?

Sell printed media.. printed cases instead of paper sleeved shit, something that will last.

I could go on but you get the picture..

So think about that, these companies are willing to fund thousands of dollars into RF technology to stop people from coping dvd all while not reaching the potential audiance if they made it globally available..

    FREE MOVIE DOWNLOAD

UPDATE DVD TO COMMENTARY $4 Each Disc
UPDATE BEHIND THE SCEENS $4 Each Dics
    GENUINE DVD DISC $6
    GENUINE DVD CASE $12
    BOX SET GENUINE CASE $12
    TOTAL $38

Of course these are just figures out of the air but its to make my point, I believe they could make more GP this way buy utilising the direction of technology rather they fighting against it.

Here in Australia we have only just aired this year the 2004 wonderfalls tv show.. I'd download it! AND I would buy some updates at the very least...

    Whay about you?

Frankly, I couldn't care less about commentaries, behind the scenes etc. It's the movie itself I want. The extras are just space fillers. Personally, I'd rather have widescreen and letterboxed versions on the disc.

It's the movie the makes the product sell.

Why not offer all the other stuff free and, if you like it, pay for the movie?

I don't understand why people just aren't willing to pay for someone else's work. It's like going to the supermarket and expecting to get food for free...

    That was a hoax.
I agree that downloaded films and tv shows are the future but I think the prices are too high.

I'm sorry but you missed the point, in your scenario the supermarket just wouldn't have it available, free or not.

Making it available online would create a larger fan base and if free net a larger "manageable group" opposed to large illegle copies that remain un-recognised.

Imaging the customer database you could apeal to if you had every copy registered with the developer. Most people that enjoy a movie like to know about the story and development of the movie.. are you saying you were never curious to the matrix effect??

The idea is to create and control the want, like george lukas in the first starwars he only signed for the rights to the income of everything else besides the movie and he made millions.

Obviousely it wont appeal to everyone but it has a greater potential to reach more people wallets then the current way.

I disagree. Your frustration with having to wait for TopGear to be available and to also pay a premium is just like going to the supermarket - for me at least.

I'm a displaced Brit and I have to pay a huge premium to get items that in the UK are plentiful and dirt cheap. Or I can stick with the local (and often dire) nearest equivalents.

Re the added extras - sometimes there are interesting but I wouldn't miss them.

Perhaps an idea for a poll?

I don't think it would be that big of a problem. These days with internet purchasing and region free dvd players you can get any version you want. Just buy the dvd pay the extra shipping cost and you can get exactly what you want.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
