I have downloaded CCCP as well as the latest DirectX. But when I try to play something in VLC, it lags .. really badly. It will play for a few seconds, then the music will stop and so will the video for a second before starting once again. When I try to play it in jetaudio, the video and audio does not match up.
I have used AVI, VOB and they both have this problem. The only one that DOES work is .mpg.
I don't have spyware or adware, I've run several programs to get rid of them. I also made sure there was no programs constantly accessing the computer. A weird thing- it says I'm at 80% comp usage at the moment, though the commit charge is only 189mb out of 2681mb. What the heck?

If you are running at 80% CPU at more or less idle conditions, it sound like that's your problem. You probably have something running that is stealing CPU cycles. But it should be causing problems with most all programs.
VLC doesn't need external codecs, so that's not it. CCCP normally shouldn't cause problems, at least with VLC. It's similar to FFDShow.
But if that 80% is consistent, look for applications and processes running. Even with your spyware removal efforts, spyware or trojans are one of the common cause of that. You could try Trend Micro's free scan. It's found problems my other antispyware missed: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
You could start up in safe mode and see if the problem is there. If not, it may be related to drivers or spyware that loads towards the end of the boot into XP.
Or you could try running 'msconfig' in a 'RUN' window and see if you can temporarily disable a few things.
And welcome to our forums. -
VLC uses its own internal codecs, so if your video isn't playing correctly with it, that implies something is probably wrong with the videos themselves. (Especially since you seem to be saying that MPEG videos (well, MPEG-1, since VOB is technically MPEG-2) play with no problems.)
It might help to run one of the AVIs you're having a problem with through a utility like GSpot (one of the latest betas, 2.52 or 2.60, as they show more information than the 'stable' version), AVI2Clipboard, or MediaInfo, and post a screenshot or the information here. (Blank out the filename and path info if you prefer.) That way, we can see if there's something wrong with the AVI or something else that might be causing the problems you're experiencing.
(edit: redwudz beat me to it by three minutes, and with some more good advice.)
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
(Sorry for the late response)
Well, it's not just the video because it's EVERY avi. Also, I run anti spywares everyday as well as anti viruses.
Nevertheless, I will try both of your solutions..
