I have just converted a movie from vob to xvid thru virtualdub.
Its quality is good but the problem is that it is more than 700 mb while I had limited it to
that size inthe config settings. Is there any calculator / method to limit it to that size.
2ndly, is there any authoring software for xvid files like we have for dvd files.
I would love that software![]()

Hi-

Did you allow for the audio size and the muxing overhead? I use the bitrate calculator in GKnot. It comes out within 200K or so every time. Or use AutoGK as the front end for your XviD creation. -
well, I have only used virtualdub but gonna try autoGK now.
Still, is there any software for authoring diff movies on a dvd ? -
There is a program called DivxMediaBuilder that can create menus, chapters etc. However the results must be saved in a .divx format (and extension of the .avi format) and can only played back on Divx Ultra certified software and hardware players. To date these are few and far between. It is NOT backwards compatable with standard Divx certified players.
Read my blog here.

It is or rather should be backwards compatible. You just lose all the extra features that the DMF offers.
Could also author as mp4 or mkv and get menus.
