I just started ripping again after about a year away from video editing. I was wondering which ripper (DVDFab Decrypter vs RipIt4Me) is better, faster or updated earlier, and why any of you use one over the other, or use a different ripper because you found it to be better. Do you find you need to use FixVTS more often after ripping or do you not use it at all?
I usually do the following
rip using ????
VOBBlanker to get rid of as much as possible.
DVDShrink
Nero to burn
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

RipIt4Me seems to be the 'latest and greatest' for ripping at present. DVD Decrypter hasn't been updated in some time. I use DVDFab Decrypter instead for ripping difficult DVDs. I haven't compared the speeds, but they all seem fast enough for me.
Most of the time I just use Shrink by itself. If it chokes, then I use DVDFab. I haven't ran into any DVDs that one or the other haven't been able to handle.
But if you like the versatility of DVD Decrypter, then RipIt4Me may be the best setup. I still use Decrypter for other uses besides ripping, so I find uses for all three ripping programs. Another option is AnyDVD, though it is payware. Then you should be able to use Shrink fairly automatically to backup some of the newer DVDs.
I also use ImgBurn with Shrink now for automatic burning as it is updated, unlike DVD Decrypter, and works better than Nero for me. This site will tell you how to set it up: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=63869 -
The main advantages of RipitFor4Me over DVD Fab Decrypter
1. RipIt4Me is adaptive. It creates the PSL file that DVD decrypter needs to rip on the fly, and doesn't need to be updated. DVD Fab Decrypter needs to be updated frequently to cater for changes to ArCoSS.
2. RipIt4Me uses DVD Decrypter to rip. Although it hasn't been updated in some time, it is still the best ripping program by far, and that something as simple as RipIt4Me can prolong it's life is testimony to cleverness of the author.
3. DVD Fab Decrypter tends to be unsubtle in it's ripping method, and often does as much damage as good. While FixVTS is required in both cases to encsure a good outcome, only RipIt4Me reminds you to run it.
Of course, this is just a personal view, and thankfully we have seen very little in the way of structure based protection over here.Read my blog here.

But RipIt4Me can automatically generate a PSL very quickly, faster than the plugin, in my experience.
2) It uses FixVTS to clean up any "junk" left behind, so DVDShrink doesn't have a problem parsing the files. Which leads to...
3) It also uses DVDShrink to verify that the structure of the ripped files is okay. DVDShrink is well-known to be picky about nav structure.
4) It integrates the above apps very nicely, and it almost sets itself up when you first install it.
5) Whether or not you suspect a disc has protection on it, you can use RipIt4Me on them all, it only needs a few seconds to determine if there is or is not any protection on the disc. If not, it wastes no time starting the rip. So you might as well do all your backups with it.
6) The (unknown) author has been very diligent about incorporating suggestions from users and in eradicating a few bugs.
To each his own, though. Lots of experienced guys here like DVDFabDecrypter, and who's to say they're wrong? Good luck.
[EDIT] Guns1inger beat me to it. :PPull! Bang! Darn!
