  2. Unfortunately, GraphEdit is not supposed to be available for download in the way that it is.

GraphEdit is part of one Microsoft's Software Development Kits and Microsoft state that it must not be distributed by itself. Apart from being spiteful, there may be very good reasons for this - and maybe the problem you have run into is one of them.

To help repair your system could be a painfully long process since playing videos relies on so many different components that all have to be correctly "registered". If using GraphEdit has changed any of the registered components, you will have to determine which ones.

To start with, we need to look inside your computer's registry. If you are familiar with regedit, you need to export the following registry key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{083863F1-70DE-11d0-BD40-00A0C911CE86}\Instance

Post back if you need help with how to do this. If you are able to export the .reg file, please post that.

Armed with the information, we can begin to determine what is and isn't still registered correctly.

By the way, can you not play ANY video files or is it just a particular kind (format)?
