  1. I have ripped the video data and audio data from my DVD to a single .vob file. The video is 720x480 16:9, 9800kbps. The audio is Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch 448kbps. I want to convert this .vob file to an avi file consisting of AC3 48000Hz 6ch 448kbps (no quality lost and maintaining the 6 channels) and I want the video quality the best it can be without using a higher bitrate than need be. What application should I use and how can I best get the audio I want as well as the video quality I want?

I'd suggest you consider mkv as a container over avi. Lets you keep the AC3 whilst storing the h.264 stream natively.

    As for apps. Try MeGUI.
