Pioneer 111D Question

I have a Pioneer 106 and 107 which I think are great drives (and pretty quiet) and I recently bought my mom a Pioneer 111D and noticed how loud it was. I would like to also pickup a 111D but since the drive is noisy (compared to my Pioneer drives) does this have anything to do with it be a lesser quality built drive than their older models?

Also is the Pioneer 111D the latest model?

mine is only noisy burning dvdrs at 16x and then it's just increased noise of a very fast spinning disc. at 4x or 8x it's extremely quiet. 111's are their newest and unfortunately last model.

Whoa, an 18x SL burner now. Burning at 16x, I believe, is about 30 seconds faster than 12x. It'd be interesting to see how much faster 18x is than 16x. What, like a whole 8 seconds? Hopefully most of us burn 16x media at 12x (like I do) to get fewer PI errors.

Looks like they're gonna release a serial ATA drive though. That I could go for. 8)

it was announced last summer they were getting out of the dvdr business and moving on to blu-ray only. any new dvdr models were going to be re-badged toshibas.

Just for information, my Pioneer 109 is very quiet, cant understand why a 111 would be noisy.

My retail Pioneer (710) 111D@111L drive isn't noisy at all.

Don't sound very noisy to me... But I've only used it to burn twice so far...

I've burned a few 100 DVD's at 8x and 12x with the 111 and noise is not an issue at all.

The disc is spinning at a fast rpm at 16x, there is no way to make that totally quiet. Your older drives are nowhere near that fast, so not a fair comparison. The drives are very quiet, especially considering what is going on inside of them.

No. That info applied to DVD recorders, not computer DVD burners. You've misread. And that article is a bit misleading. Pioneer later disputed that in an official press release, within a day.

I got this drive too, and boy it makes a lot of noise, that maybe coz i have the drive in
a External USB Case.

Yes having it in an external case will cause more vibration then a pc case. I have a Sony burner in an external case and man it sounds like a truck.
