  1. HI
i'm trying to convert multiple avis of an old show my brother has. but when i put them in gspot it says they are different kinds of avi. some divx some xvid. althoug windows xp says they are all 128kbps and 640x480.

i thought it didnt matter and i used avi2dvd to try to convert them and i get an error saying different file formats.

Why do you want to join them? Aren't they different titles?

  5. Divx and Xvid are both MPEG 4 part 2 codecs. Try using AVI FourCC Code Changer to change the FourCC codes so that they all match. That may or may not work.

i dunno i joining them is absolutely necessary. it's just that the only software i get good results in(avi2dvd) requires that i join them. i want it to be on one dvd of course

I'd make backups of the originals just in case. For the most part Divx and Xvid are the same but there are slight differences. Sometimes changing the FourCC will result in colors getting messed up. You can always change the FourCC back if necessary, or go back to the backups. The FourCC code is simply an identifier that indicates what codec should be used.

If they are different titles (eg, different episodes of a tv series), it's nicer to leave as different titles selected by a menu.
Titles can be completely different formats, one PAL, one NTSC if you want.

I have only played with Avi2dvd, but I see it uses external encoders (QuEnc, or HCenc, etc)
If you can encode each avi separately using one of these into MPEGs, then you can load them into an authoring ap; I use guiforDVDauthor because it makes loading files and creating menus very simple.
It takes literally minutes of my time to do now (NOT including the hours of encoding), but it might take a few hours to get familiar with it all.

  11. Thanks Alan will try that if DivxtoDVD fails me.
DivxtoDVD is encoding the files as we speak and is spitting out some weird warnings

MSG Level #0 - rc buffer underflow

    MSG level #1 - Warning min_rate > 0 but min_rate != max_rate isnt recommanded!
heh? so the min rate should = the max rate if it doesnt = 0? and what is the MSG level anyway?

Ignore those messages. They don't affect your final outcome.

Someone plz help me.I have these two video files which I wanna convert and then burn to dvd. When I try to convert a single file,it's perfect but when I try to convert 2 different files(2 eisodes of a tv drama),many problems arise. The problems are as follow:

1.It cant be saved into the same folder.
2.When save into different folders, the first video that's converted seems to be duplicated.
3.So when I try to convert them seperately, turns out to be that the names of the files are the
    same.
4.That makes nero unable to burn them cuz they have the same name.
5.There's an error when I try renaming it.
6.sometimes when I convert them seperatley, the first video that was converted suddenly changes into the second file.

So how do I join 2 or more video files(with subtitles)to be converted into vob files so that they can be burned to dvd?
I can't live without my computer.
