Hi I have a Compro Video Mate gold tv tuner card but I am not satisfied with the software that came with the card. When I want to record something with a good quality I need to use the DVD option that has 6000 kb/s .This gives me a large file. I need something that will allow me to capture using a codec’s like Xvid that will give me the quality but not the quantity of the kb/s thanks.

I don't know your capture card.
There are plenty freeware programs, that allows you to capture to avi using codecs like xvid/divx, jpeg, etc: Virtualdub, Virtualvcr are the most freeware popular. For direct mpeg 2 capture, mainconcept pvr or the mainconcept encoder, if you have a good CPU (~3Ghz) is a nice choice. For freeware, I don't know any solution (maybe a plug in on GBPVR may do the trick, but only for bt based cards)
