I am still in the process of trialing DVD Authoring software and I have run into a problem. I am currently testing DVD Lab Studio, DVD Author 2.0 and Movie Factory 5+. Because I only do family DVD’s, I was leaning towards DVD Author 2.0 because it was easy to use. The only problem I had was that I attempted to Author several DVD with it but I found I would get a disk error in one of my two DVD players (Yamaha DVD S1500). They will however play in my Panasonic TV/DVD combo with out a problem. I then downloaded DVD Lab Studio and found I had the same problem. The strange thing is that DVD’s authored using Movie Factory 5+ work in both players. Anyone have any thoughts why this might happen.
    Thanks

    Is everything else equal ?

    Same discs
    Same source assets
Same features used (basic menus only)
    Same burning application used

Yes. I am using the same audio and video for all three. I started with a 10 min timeline that I exported to AVI using Premiere 6.5. I then encoded it using Main Concept MPEG Encoder 1.05. During my authoring with each of the three programs I am making very a basic menu using the MPEG file that I converted with MPEG Encoder, a jpg file as the background and a 20 sec wav file for audio. When I am done I burn the two folders created using EZ CD 6. I receive no errors during the whole process but I get an error on my one DVD player and the disk will not play.

Some standalone dvd players only like +r media, and some only like -r. Look up your standalones in the dvd player area, and see what type of media they prefer. You might even try using +r media and bitset to -rom and see if that helps. It could also be the particular brand of media you are using, or it could be that the laser pickup in you one standalone is old and weak, or just dirty.

I was able to make the same project with the same blank DVDs using Movie Factory 5+ without any problems in that player. I have also made over 50 different projects using Mover Factory 2 that were able to play in that unit as well. I find it odd that I am having a problem with the two programs that should be the better software.
Anyone else have any ideas? I may end up purchasing Movie Factory 5 because it seems more reliable for my uses, even though I like the interface of DVD Author 2.0 better.

  6. Seems quite odd

TMPGEnc DVD Author is said to produce 100% compliant DVD Video files (If the mpg isn't to DVD spec then it should re-encode and correct it),so I cant see why when using Movie Factory the DVD plays but with TDA it doesn't.
