  2. If it is a fax modem and you have fax software, then yes.

I dare say most modems since mid 80's also doubles as fax modems.
Just print to the "Fax printer" from "any" application.

There is a difference. Generally most modems put in PC's are data/fax modems. You can check what you've got in the Device Manager.

I think XP Pro comes with fax software built in. Go to Start -> Accessories -> Communications -> Fax

If that is not in there you'll need some software. There are plenty of free apps available from sites like www.download.com

I think you can also set it up under Printers and Faxes in Control Panel.

On a fresh system (without any printers installed) the Fax printer is usually there by default.

I believe since W2k the Fax printer gets installed automatically if Windows detects that a fax capable modem is installed. If you have an older modem, it may not report it's fax capablilities in a way that Windows can recognize. If this is the case it may also not work properly with the windows fax/printer drivers and might require the proprietary software that came with the modem. According to your details you're on XP, so if you don't have the fax displaying as a printer option then your modem probably isn't fax capable. Fortunately fax modems are pretty cheap so replacing it shouldn't be a big deal.

    Hi,
Well first of all modems are fax capable...... so allyou need is the software.

now I know winxp home has fax software avail but it has to be manually installed from the windows cd....!!!

now I noticed you have winxp pro.... I would think it probably the same with it in fact same software probably . smile...... go to your windows help...... and search for FAX......
it should give you procedures for installing "fax services"
this what the procedures looks like for my winxp home

Using FaxFax provides you with complete fax facilities from your computer. You can configure fax settings, send and receive faxes, track and monitor fax activity, and access archived faxes. Using Fax, you can choose to send and receive faxes with a local fax device attached to your computer, or with a remote fax device connected to fax resources located on a network.

Fax is not installed by default during Windows Setup.

    To install the Fax component
Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
    Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
In the Windows Components Wizard, select the Fax Services check box, and then follow the instructions on your screen.
    Notes

To open Fax after installation, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click Fax Console.
For more information on using Fax, click Help in Fax Console.

WinXP Home comes with a built in "Fax printer" - this is how you can send faxes without purchasing additional fax software - just print to the fax printer. A wizard will pop up and walk you through the rest of the process.

If there's no fax printer installed on your computer, use the "Add Printer" link in Printers and Faxes to add one.

  12. I have a question, too.
How can I (if I can) wait the fax signal to send a fax?
I always use CogoSWSDS' tip to send faxes with my modem. That solution works very well when I send a fax to dedicated fax-similes. When I have to dial and ask for fax signal, I don't know how I can wait signal and then send fax without a dial up.

    Does anybody know?

    Thanks in advance.

Try using WinFax Pro. This application can be configured to re-send faxes automatically for a user specified number of times. It will have other advances features for some $$$.

I do that, but sometimes I have to send fax to an office that receives many faxes from other people and the next call can be from other person.

There are also email to fax gateways.

Useful, especially as they give free messages to many overseas destinations (not all places are covered though).

For instance, to send a fax to USA, number 555-1234567

    <remote-printer.NAME/Address_Address@15551234567.iddd.tpc.int>
(where the "NAME/Address_Address" will be printed at the top of the fax)

    See www.tpc.int for details.
