I currently using a Philips 642 that I have connected to my 36" std def CRT, and my 480p Infocus 4805 projector.
I'm looking for an upgrade, and put the 642 in a bedroom. DivX/Xvid compatibility and price being the 2 most important factors.
I bought my parents the LG 530, and it works great.
I thought maybe one with upcoverting (LGDVB418) might either have better quality by default or the upconverting might improve the quality (since the projector accepts 720p/1080i signals.) However, garbage in --> garbage out theory, I don't think it will improve the quality, just checking here to see if I'm wrong.
Thanks,
Matt

I'm thinking an upgarde is a good idea also just for the better DivX capabilities, as well. The 642 I think creates a lot of blockiness sometimes that isn't there in the actual file.

Why not get the Phillips again, the New model from this thread is nice, does upconverting however it only upconverts through HDMI, Dang it. https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=301465&highlight=
what I like about it is being able to play videos off of a external hard drive. Right now I'm using a 80Gb external and only using the DVD drive to play DVDs.
